| In
1974 I received a scholarship from the American GI
Forum in Carlsbad, California. Since then I have
acquired a BS degree in Social Work, a teaching
credential (I was a bilingual teacher for 15 years)
and a Masters degree in Educational Administration. My
Mexican American parents had only a second grade
education. I remember traveling up and down the state
of California as a migrant farm worker picking grapes,
tomatoes, almonds and lettuce.
I was
pleasantly surprised my senior year in high school
back in 1974 when I found out that I was awarded a
scholarship from the American GI Forum. Due
to that wonderful incentive, I was inspired to
attend college. I completed my BS from Loma Linda
University in three years, my teaching credential from
UC Riverside, my Masters from USIU and next year I am
starting my doctoral degree program.
I just
wanted to say THANK YOU for that inspiration back in
1974. You changed my life and the life of my children.
Thank
you again. You are making a difference!
